President's Message

Don't forget to join us on our cruise-Updated meet time 6:15pm

Happy springtime, BPW! The Keys are at full capacity and business is booming. Are you feeling it?

This is a wonderful time of year for all of us to keep busy and thrive. After all, we live in paradise and have the best weather in the country. It's no wonder so many folks want to be here, too.

We're very excited for the Bayside & Bubbles Bayside Sunset Cruise on Wednesday evening. Are you registered to join us?

Thank you to Ilja Chapman of Cruise Planners for generously sponsoring this event. I don't know about you, but I hardly ever make it out on the water for a sunset and can't wait to share this time with our club.

Next month we'll be welcoming Marlo DeMoss April 19 to share her expertise and knowledge on all things financial. As usual, we'll meet in the African Queen room at the Key Largo Holiday Inn.We will also be holding elections for the 2017-2018 Board of Directors.

If you would like to nominate someone between now and then, please email your submission to bpwupperkeys@gmail.com.

We are looking forward to another super year of growth and connection. We hope you'll consider becoming a board member and giving and receiving more out of your membership in the Upper Keys BPW. It has made all the difference for me.

See you on the boat!!

Hat's off!

Congratulations to BPW members Ilja Chapman (top, second from right) and to Maryann Warren (bottom, middle) for bringing home honors in the recent Toastmasters' speaking contest held in Homestead earlier this month. Ilja took second place and Maryann came in third.

Curious about Toastmasters? Visit their open house at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 14 at 86450 Overseas Highway, Islamorada.

Learning how to be an effective public speaker is one of the very best ways to gain confidence.

New treasurer

Congratulations also are in order for Pam Martin, who recently was elected treasurer of the Alliance on Aging Board of Directors.

Pam is your go-to woman if you need help with any of your Medicare questions or issues. And if you're really nice to her, she'll even sign you up!

Thanks for all you do for the community, Pam. You are appreciated!

bpw|MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Miriam Lazcos

Miriam Lazcos is a South Florida native who enjoys all aspects of living in paradise.

Married for more than 30 years with three children and two grandchildren, Miriam and her husband, Publio, are a dynamic duo that know what it takes to persevere and move ahead in life.

Miriam was born and raised in Miami from Cuban immigrants. With 20 years of experience as an educator, Miriam said she brings to this team a passion for educating her real estate customers.

She is the team’s mortgage loan originator and assists Publio with real estate transactions and marketing. She is also the 2017 Women’s Council of Realtors president-elect and a member of the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce.

As residents of Key Largo since 1999, Miriam and her husband have the knowledge to assist in the purchase, sale, rental and/or financing of properties in both Miami and the Florida Keys.

An understanding of each community, its neighborhoods, and its culture makes this progressive couple the right choice for their customers, she said. Both are fluent in English and Spanish which is key to fully service the South Florida community.

THE LAZCOS TEAM was born in 2010. “We love meeting new people, we love South Florida and sharing all that it has to offer," Miriam said. "Our motto is 'Living our dreams. Working for yours.'"
