President's Message

Hi there --

You know me, usually I try to come up with a clever theme for our monthly BPW newsletter. Things I'm impatient about. Ways to support a woman's business without spending a dime. How many times you have to ask woman before she'll run for office. A word of the year.

But this month, I've got so many things running through my brain when it comes to BPW that I don't know what to do!

I could write about the success of our campaign to raise money for rebuilding the Domestic Abuse Shelter. In three weeks we're already over half way to our goal of making a $10,000 contribution to fund the Business Center. Check out the article in the current Upper Keys Weekly to learn more!

I could go into a lot of detail about why we've scheduled our Annual Meeting on the fourth Wednesday in May instead of the third. The important thing is that we're installing a new Board of Directors and planning to update our organizational bylaws.

Or I could try to inspire everyone again about Scholarship applications in these last few days before they're due on Monday. Don't get me started on how proud we are to partner with the Holly Given Fund on this!

Maybe you'd like to hear more about our BPW/Florida state conference! It's coming up in June and it's going to be great. We feel so strongly that we're putting aside funds to defray registration and hotel for any member who wants to come join us in Sarasota.

All of this in addition to our monthly mixer next Wednesday evening in Islamorada and an amazing opportunity to be part of a BPW swim team that Saturday!

I'm so proud of all the different ways we support each other and all working women in the Keys. Not all of these opportunities are for everyone, but hopefully you'll find something in this newsletter that  excites and empowers you!

Warm regards,

Jill

April 20 Swim Across America with BPW

8:00 am -- Founders Park, Islamorada

The Upper Keys BPW has formed a team for the 3rd Annual Swim Across America event, and we want YOU to join us!

BPW Board Member Margie Smith is encouraging her BPW sisters and others to join her April 20th on the BPW team to fund cancer research.

Be part of a larger project this year to get us out into the sunshine and out of our comfort zones--especially if we don't identify today as a swimmer or an athlete and open water swimming may be new to us despite where we live here in the Keys.

If there is interest, in mid-April Margie has offered to host a drop-in beach day, with a group swim of the course in advance just for fun or even a stroke clinic.

Click here for more information about the Upper Keys "BPW Splashers" team and this fun event!

Help rebuild the Domestic Abuse Shelter

On March 20, 2024, Upper Keys BPW announced the "Give Hope a Home" campaign to raise $10,000 to create a business center at the soon-to-be-built emergency shelter for Middle and Upper Keys residents experiencing domestic abuse.

The business center will provide workspace, computers, internet access, printers, paper and other essential resources to help domestic abuse survivors search for jobs, find housing and more.
