Happy New Year {Contact_First_Name}!
Do you have your word yet!??
I don’t know who started this practice of choosing a theme word or words to guide the year. But I've always liked what Susannah Conway says, that 'you can't break a word' like you can a resolution.
So I've half-heartedly tried to find a word for the year before, but it never really took hold until this past late December. My sister, sister-in-law and four of my Gen Z nieces took time out of the family reunion to gather in a room in our Hilton Head VRBO and tackle it together.
The particular program we used has five different parts and starts by asking great questions. What we know will happen in the year to come? What do we hope will happen? What does an ideal day in this new year look like?
Then it was time to look at a long list of words to see what jumped out. We each chose a shortlist of five or so words to drill down on. Pondering dictionary definitions, related words, and active and passive versions, most of us were able to settle on a touchstone word that will focus, ground, and inspire us for 2024.
The final step in the recommended process (which I’m only getting to now!) is to somehow share it with friends or family so they can help remind me of it. ...So here goes....
My personal word for 2024 is flourish.
To me this word conveys an unfolding of life in a strong and lovely way for a purpose. A seed becomes a plant that flourishes when it grows strong produces flowers and bear fruits. As a noun, a flourish is also an extra detail that adds beauty or interest.
I hope to flourish in my professional work (I started a new job this week, see below!) and with our BPW sisterhood, that you and all working women here in the Keys flourish too!
