This holiday season I’ve been thinking a lot about names.
There are the names on my holiday shopping list. If/when I get around to organizing holiday greeting cards, there will be a list for that too. Santa makes a list of names and checks it twice but I go through my lists a lot more than that! Do I have all the names? Did I forget anyone?
Which leads me to a little insight about names and gifts.
When I was new to the Keys community a few years ago, the only person I knew was my realtor. So anytime I met someone wearing a name tag, it felt like a gift. Conversation was much more relaxed because I didn’t have to keep repeating their name over and over in my mind to remember it. And back home, they automatically got added to the very short list of people I could say I knew here.
Some people get a name tag from their work. Some people get more than one and proudly wear them all to represent the different hats they wear professionally and for volunteer organizations. Other folks might not have a a reason to have a physical name tag at all.
One of the unique ways that BPW serves working women is through personal support and connection. That’s why we give all new BPW members the gift of a personalized name tag.
In the past year, our organization has gained almost 40 new members. I’m not sure anyone can put a name with every single member’s face right now. I wish I could but I know I can’t.
Whether you’re one of the newbies or an old-timer –or someone in between- give me and others the gift of your name by wearing your name tag at an upcoming BPW event.
Next week’s Holiday Party will be a great time to wear it – it’s so chic, it goes with everything!
I hope you’ll use your BPW name tag for other community events too. At the end of the day, BPW is not just an acronym. It’s not just an organization that’s been supporting working women here in the Keys for the last 67 years.
BPW is me! And it’s you!
It says so, right there on our name tags!!
